If You Prepare, You Will Not Despair

Plan your ride and ride your plan. That is a great idea when group riding but if you are in a smaller group, sometimes you can be more flexible with your plan. There are certain things you should plan for on each ride regardless if it's with a group or by yourself.

Bike

Make sure your bike is ready for a ride by doing a "T-Clock"

T- tires, C - controls, L - lights, O - Oil, C - chassis, K - kickstand.

You

Are you ready for a ride? Do you feel stressed of tired? If so, maybe you should postpone or delay you ride until you are physically and mentally ready for the ride. Some feel that riding a motorcycle clears the mind. Some experts feel that if you are stressed out you will focus more on what is bothering you and not deal with riding your motorcycle safely with a clear head. Leave the stress off the motorcycle so you can enjoy the ride.

You're Co-Rider

If you have a co-rider, are they ready to ride or do they even want to ride that day? If not, you may (you better) rethink your ride plans. Don't pressure your co-rider to ride if they don't want to. Make sure your co-rider knows about your motorcycle regarding where the controls are and how to use them. They should be aware of the "kill switch" the CB and all the main controls in the event the rider is unable to use them. Involve your co-rider so they feel like they are part of the riding experience, because they are. This will also make the co-rider more comfortable and the ride more enjoyable. Besides, if the co-rider isn't happy, YOU won't be happy!

Ride

Ride your own ride within your ride ability. If you are in a group, let them know your feelings and how you ride. If there are several people within the same skill level, then break into two different groups so everyone can have a good time. Another consideration would be the riders who like to ride and stop along the way and others who want to get to the destination NOW. You know who you are! Have a scenic group if needed. Make sure you have made plans and maps available if you get separated. Each group should have a Road Captain and Drag Rider and cell phones.

Conditions

Be aware of the weather conditions at your starting point, midpoint and end point. The weather may be really nice starting off, but what is the weather where you are ending your ride? Prepare to call the ride off if the weather has a last minute drastic change. Have a phone tree available to call the riders so they get the message of the ride cancellation. Prepare for warm, cold and wet riding and all of your dreams will be fulfilled. Be prepared!

When you plan your ride either as a solo or a group, remember to plan for the worst and hope for the best. If you prepare, you will not despair and show you care. Care about the importance of the ride for your safety and the safety of those with you.

Practice Safe Riding,
